Tasting Note: I have long been an admirer of the Clarendon Hills Grenache cuvées, and have purchased and drunk more than my fair share, always with exceptional pleasure. You might have to wait a few years for the 1999 Grenache Old Vine Hickinbotham to come around (14 alcohol). This is another expression of Grenache, exhibiting earth, notes of Asian soy sauce, and a sardine-like quality to its herb-tinged, black cherry fruit character. In the mouth, it is tightly structured, with tannin, mineral, pepper, and spice. The wine is outstanding. I would opt for giving this wine 1-2 years of cellaring and drinking it over the following decade. Robert Parker, Wine Advocate 135 (June 2001).
