Lot Essay

The Casa Ceccato provided Ponti with the opportunity to experiment with furnishing concepts, many of which were to be developed in subsequent designs and projects. Among the first was the headboard-dashboard, presented as a formula for a modern bed. Amongst other peculiarities was the prolific use of carefully selected Ferrara root-walnut, which was bleached to emphasise its decorative qualities, and the concept of an entirely mirrored wall (lot 18).
