Two Nanban-Style Tsuba and Another Tsuba
Edo period (18th-19th century)
Comprising a Nanban-style circular iron plate with flush-inlaid silver and copper designs of scrolling vines and Roman letters, with a later shakudo rim; a mokko plate tsuba carved in high-relief with a Nanban-style design of two foreign figures, one in a ruff collar and tall hat holding a banner, Chinese lion and brocade ball, phoenix and treasure sack, the surrounding areas with scrolling vines, seppa dai with "combed waves," all with gilt overlay; a large and thick circular iron plate carved in the center with a dragon in clouds, surrounded by coiled wires in the round, raised rim and both hitsuana plugged with gold
