A Kawari Kabuto (Eccentrically Shaped Helmet)
Edo period (17th-18th century)
Constructed of paper, wood and lacquer over a simple three-plate iron bowl and designed as a tall court cap, with distinct folds and curling forward at the top, the front of the bowl embossed with eyebrows and with no mabisashi (peak), the small turnbacks lacquered gold and mounted with gilt-metal crests and trimmed in fukurin (metal edging), the bowl fitted with a five-lame solid-plate leather neck guard lacquered gold and laced in green
