A Porcelain Conch-Form Vessel and Cover
Arita Ware, Edo period (17th-18th century)
Modelled as a conch shell with a rolled edge and a pinched spout and set on three "coral" feet, the exterior encrusted with smaller shells and draped with seaweed decorated in blue, green and yellow enamels and red and black iron-oxide, the exterior surface finished with a stippled pattern resembling the rough texture of the worn shell punctuated with smooth glazed patches, the cover with a crab finial, the interior covered in a clear colorless glaze
