The striding figure with mouth open in a roar showing the tongue and teeth, with bells and a tassel hung from the trappings and a cylindrical holder issuing from the center of the cloth draped over its back, the tail made separately, glazed in deep purple, turquoise and a yellowish-cream glaze

Lot Essay

A stand of this type, but with a different glaze combination, in the Royal Ontario Museum of Archaeology, Toronto, was included in the exhibition, The Arts of the Ming Dynasty, 1952, pp. 30-1, no. 213, while a smaller green and amber-glazed example was sold in these rooms, 30 May 1991, lot 295.
