YONGZHENG SIX-CHARACTER MARK IN A LINE IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE AND OF THE PERIOD (1723-1735)
The rounded bowl flaring towards the rim, finely incised on the exterior with the Eight Buddhist Emblems, bajixiang, each tied with ribbons and supported on a lotus bloom, above a border of ruyi just above the splayed stem foot incised with lotus sprays below an encircling rib incised with florets, covered overall with a white glaze, the reign mark in a line on the interior of the foot
7 in. (17.7 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

A similar incised white stem cup was included in the Exhibition of Ch'ing Porcelain from the Wah Kwong Collection, Hong Kong, 1974, no. 51. The same carving also appears on a white Yongzheng stem cup with flared foot sold in these rooms, 14 November 1983, lot 154, and on a Yongzheng yellow-glazed stem cup with knopped stem in the Percival David Foundation, illustrated by M. Medley in the Illustrated Catalogue of Ming and Ch'ing Monochrome, 1973, section 6, pl. X, no. A575, where a green-glazed example in the Victoria and Albert Museum is also noted.
