Two Inlaid Celadon Cosmetic Boxes
Koryo dynasty (13th century)
Both circular, the smaller box inlaid on the lid in white slip with bands of fretwork and of circles with iron-slip interior dots around a roundel of reverse-inlaid chrysanthemums with white slip-inlaid inner petals, a matching band of inlaid white fretwork on the lower section where the halves join and the whole covered by a celadon glaze; the larger box also inlaid with fretwork bands at the joins and on the lid with a medallion of two confronted cranes within line and dot borders of inlaid white slip and also applied with a celadon glaze; rims where both halves join unglazed
