A double-sided miniature of William III (1650-1702) and Mary II (1662-1694): he, in scarlet and blue robes, gold necklace and long curling wig; she, in ermine-bordered scarlet dress, ermine cloak over her shoulder, a skull beside her right shoulder
the latter dated 'Dec 28: 94' in gold ink, gilt-metal pendant frame in fitted shagreen case

Lot Essay

William III of England was also known as William II of Scotland and William III of Orange. William and Mary married in 1677. Mary II reigned as Queen of England and Ireland jointly with her husband and first cousin, William III, who became sole ruler after her death on 28th December 1694.
