AN EARLY 19TH.CENTURY RUSSIAN SILVER-GILT RELIQUARY,
MARK OF VASILIY POPOV, MOSCOW, 1823,
Of openwork form , the top with a cut-out representation of the Resurection on a pedestal decorated with angels within sunbursts, the upper tier with a receptacle surmounted by the Instruments of the Passion and flanked by Mary, Mother of God & St.John the Evangelist, the lower tier with coffin-shaped receptacle , the three closed sides chased with panels depicting the Instruments of the Passion, raised on four feet, also two later Russian silver-gilt patens, one engraved with The Virgin & Child and Cyrillic inscription, 1896/1908, the other similarly engraved with the Instruments of The Passion, Moscow, 1875, 19 in. high (48 cm.), 30.25 oz.
