Much of Seljuk jewelry was fashioned from sheet metal, the work often being embellished with inscriptions or figural ornamentation. The Seljuks were exceptional in the history of Islamic art insofar as secular art forms abound with images of human and animal figures. The lion was used as a symbol of Seljuk power, and is seen on all forms of Seljuk art.
