etching with aquatint, embossing and extensive hand-colouring with watercolours in green, yellow, blue and red, 1969, on Arches, signed in pencil, numbered 8/10, from the unrecorded edition of ten, an early impression of this rare, large print, apparently an earlier state before the addition of the dark aquatint ground and before the edition of forty (Ferrari erroneously records only two proofs, no edition, and no hand-coloured impressions), inscribed on the reverse by the printer Georges Visat Je sousigne G. 拍品專文

The catalogue of Matta's prints by Germana Ferrari lists only two proofs of this important print. We believe, however, that there are likely to have been two editions; an early, edition of ten (as here), and a later edition of forty with a heavier aquatint ground. What is not clear is how many of the edition of ten were hand-coloured. We have not been able to find any other examples from this edition at auction in the last twenty years.
