The visual richness of La Suite 347 derives from Picasso's skill in adapting techniques in order to complement the mood of each scene. The drama of the following kidnapping scenes is made darker and more mysterious by a technique Picasso invented specifically for the series: by dissolving the protective ground on the plate with the use of a piece of cotton soaked in petrol, he was able to freely create and modulate large areas of tone and highlights which could be printed after a single biting of the plate.
