Of rectangular form with bevelled edges, the inscription in elegant thuluth raised and gilded against a blue ground, set in a cartouche, the cusped spandrels with small floral motifs, areas of slight damage, mounted

Lot Essay

The inscription reads: ya ahmad fa'al ya razzaq al-'ibad 'ala kull hal ya arham al-rahimin (O the most laudable of Performers, O the One who gives sustenance to [all] servants in every sitation, O the Most Merciful of those who show mercy).

The style of inscription, the colouring and the red infills are all similar to those on a larger seventeenth century painted wooden panel with elaborate surmounting decoration sold in these Rooms 15 October 2002, lot 343.
