Lot Essay

This page is almost certainly from the same manuscript as one in the Bodleian and illustrated by Yasin Dutton in his account of the use of diacritical marks in early kufic Qur'ans (see Y. Dutton, "Red dots, green dots, yellow dots and blue: Some reflection of the vocalisation of early Qur'anic manuscripts", Part I, Journal of Qur'anic Studies, London, 2000).

Another leaf from this manuscript was sold in these rooms, 25 November 1985, lot 81. Others were in Sotheby's, 12 October 2000, lot 32; 3 May 2001, lot 6.
