Of very shallow conical form, the white interior with a very bold kufic inscription band around the rim, a small red stylised word in one place, the centre with a plain red dot, repaired breaks, some areas of restoration
12¾in. (32cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

The pieces from this bowl have been incorrectly re-assembled and restored. The inscription certainly contained benedictory phrases, possibly combined with a saying.

Two very similar bowls, with better glaze but lacking the red detail found here, were sold at Sotheby's, 30 April 2003, lot 58 and 13 October 2004, lot 68.
