With spherical body and vertical neck, two simple angled handles linking the shoulder and neck, the body painted over the unglazed surface with a green glaze forming a band of large lobed panels each containing a lozenge, a band of scrolling motifs around the mouth similarly executed, intact, one side with substantial loss of glaze

Lot Essay

This is a well-known Spanish form but rare in this technique. Similar examples were excavated at the Alcazaba in Malaga (Dorothea Duda, Spanisch-Islamische Keramik aus Almeria vom 12. bis 15. Jahrhundert, Heidelberg, 1970, pls. 6 and 7, esp.pls. 6b and 6c).
