OTTOMAN TURKEY, CIRCA 1640
With sloping rim on short foot, the white interior decorated in blue, green, black and red, a large blue peacock in the centre with red-spotted plumage and green wings, the interstices filled with red floral sprays, the rim with green and blue triangles enclosing semi-rosettes, the exterior with alternating blue and green motifs, repaired breaks, rim and foot chipped, underside with various old labels, foot drilled

A similar dish depicting a peacock, but with the image reversed, is in the Metropolitan Museum (Nurhan Atasoy and Julian Raby, Iznik, the Pottery of Ottoman Turkey, London, 1989, no.642, pp.280-1).
