A mid 18th-Century Spanish walnut domestic medicine chest with steel strap-work and applied silver decoration,
of trunk-type with domed lid and double doors to the front, the interior with paper lining throughout (damaged) and fenestrations to reveal the contents of bottles, the doors with drawers surmounted by fitted area for bottles with pewter necks, caps (one damaged) and chemist's paper content labels FARMACI DE B.TAMOYO [handwritten contents] Olivo 1 y Càrmen 28 (two labels missing), the central upper section partitioned to house three similar but larger bottles and four pewter canisters with screw caps and finials, with two drawers below and a front work surface with a further drawer on a plinth base, the drawers with pewter knobs and some containing packages, the case with a crude iron handle and decorated with two (?)later silver crowned lions on the lid, applied silver plaque engraved with the Royal Arms of Spain and silver banding with rope-twist decoration, the circular silver escutcheon with sunburst decoration and key -- 18 x 16.3 x 16.5cm.
