A mid 19th-Century lacquered-brass Ross No.1 stand compound binocular microscope,
signed on the foot A. ROSS LONDON 554, the eyepieces with rack and pinion adjustment, the barrel on a short thick limb with rack and pinion focusing, micrometer adjustment, prism drawer and double nosepiece, from the rectangular-section main limb with stage forceps, stage lieberkuhn, mechanical stage, large substage condensor with rack and pinion adjustment and lateral and rotating adjustment and a large plano-concave mirror, tilting between two shaped uprights fom the Y-shaped foot, with two eyepieces and Ross 1/10 and 2in. objectives in brass canisters, the former dated 1878, in a fitted mahogany carrying case with two doors and brass handle (possibly for a different instrument) -- 33.5cm. (13 1/8in.) high
