The inscription on the back describes, "Dial made of meteorite found by Robert E. Peary, Cosmic origin impact point 76 4 N.. 64 5 8'W, Cape York, Greenland."

Robert Edwin Peary (1856-1920) was an American explorer generally credited with leading the first party to reach the north pole. The dial of this watch is made of a fragment of one of the meteorites discovered by Peary near Cape York during his Greenland expedition in 1894.
