THOUGHTS OF BORDEAUX
A life-long collector and admirer of Bordeaux, its wine, culture and people; this collector bought all the significant vintages on release: 1975, 1979, 1982, 1983, 1986, 1989, 1990, 1995, and 1996. Around the time of the latter vintage, his taste and consequently buying began to focus on red Burgundy with a particular fondness for Bonnes Mares. As the bidder may see by the selection for sale, he was fortunate enough to drink many of the wines from the '70s during their prime, but now found his collection to be heavy from the prime vintages of '80s, while facing decreased consumption. Therefore, this sale was somewhat sadly necessitated by this new reality as well as finding space in his two cellars for an ever increasing bevy of young Burgundies.
Property of a Distinguished Northeastern Gentleman.
All wines were removed by Christie's specialists from two separate temperature-controlled cellars specifically designed for the long term storage of wine by maintaining a temperature of fifty-two degrees.
Justin Christoph
Château Latour--Vintage 1982
Pauillac, 1er cru classé
Levels: four bottom neck and eight top shoulder; two signs of seepage, two stained labels
In original wooden case
"most recently, emitting 'warm, ripe, cedary and redcurrant scents. Surprisingly sweet, very amenable despite its tannic grip. Delicious. Last noted at the La Réserve tasting, April 2001 ***(**) Twenty glorious years ahead." MB, Vintage Wine
