A GROUP OF COPTIC TEXTILE TUNIC FRAGMENTS
CIRCA 5TH-8TH CENTURY A.D.
In linen and wool, including eight roundels and square panels with stylized animals and figures, 3¾ x 3½ in. (9.5 x 9 cm.) max.; a clavus fragment with pendant drop, decorated with a multicoloured geometric border and ornate floral designs, on ochre ground, 15¼ in. (38.8 cm.) long; twin conjoined clavi with red foliate tendrils and a stylized bust within a central roundel; another fragment with twin clavi containing stylized figures each with one arm upraised, 8 in. (20.3 cm.) long max.; and a fragment with a lion and another animal within green and red interlaced borders, on black ground, 6 5/8 x 4 in. (16.8 x 10.2 cm.); all mounted and glazed in six frames (6)
