Finely modelled, her face with archaic smile, her hair worn in wavy tresses parted above her high forehead and framing her face in triangular formation, the tresses drawn back over the crown of the head, behind the ears and falling down over the back of her neck, her diadem with two long strands lying over her tresses at the back, bearing traces of reddish pigment, with pierced earlobes, mounted

拍品專文

This fine head with its enigmatic archaic smile so typical of Ionian archaic sculpture would appear to be the product of a central or western Greek School of sculpture, cf. A. Stewart, Greek Sculpture, Yale, 1990, nos. 236 and 256, for the sculptural group of Theseus and Antiope (circa 550-490 B.C.) and the Enthroned Goddess (circa 470 B.C.) in Berlin.
