Lot Essay

This large figure may have come from an altar, or more likely from a personal monument. The figure is tensed in action as can be seen from the twist in the neck, taut chest and the clenched muscle of the arm. The drapery is carefully rendered with additional shallow grooves, typical of Hellenistic workmanship.

This lot is accompanied by a certificate from The Art Loss Register.
