Lot Essay

The design of the fret-carving on this chair closely relates to that on a chair signed I.M. and possibly made by Mayhew and Ince circa 1760, illustrated in R. Edwards, The Dictoinary of English Furniture, rev. Ed., London, 1953, Vol. I, p. 288, fig, 195.
