LARGE ABBASID QUR'AN SECTION, NEAR EAST, 12TH CENTURY
Manuscript on paper, 22ff. with 12ll. of fine sepia rayahni, sura headings in white ornamental thuluth within rectangle decorated with ornamental floral arabesque designs and a square of chain work on either side with a decorative palmette extending into the margin, the whole is illuminated in gold and outlined in dark blue, gold rosettes between verses, minor verse-counts and Qur'anic divisions marked inter-text with small illuminated medallions, major verse-counts and divisions marked with 53 monumental illuminated medallions and other decorative devices, later brown morocco binding with blind tooling -- Folio 16 3/8 x 11¾in. (42.5 x 29.8cm.)
