Pen and wash heightened with gold on paper, Layla as an Indian princess in a gold hat with a feather sitting on the ground with the emaciated figure of Majnun who strokes a lion, Layla's camel and a pair of black buck in the foreground and a pair of nilgai behind him, inscribed below in Persian Layla wa Majnun, mounted on card with illuminated margins-folio 9¼ x 6½in. (23.5 x 16.5cm.)
