Second edition. Accum, a German chemist and engineer, was appointed to the London & Westminster Chartered Gas Light & Coke Company when it was formed in 1812. Together with his Practical Treatise on Gas Light, this second and scarcer work forms the first technical and scientific treatise on the state of the science in its infancy. Advocating the public and domestic uses of gas-light, the work details the manufacture of coal gas as well as installation and operating costs. Dawson 91, p.4; Sotheran I, 20.
