Tasting Note: The 1990 Grosso Sanese exhibits more promise than flattering aromas and flavours. It displays an impressively saturated dark ruby/purple colour, and a reticent but emerging bouquet of smoky oak, leafy tobacco, and copious quantities of black-raspberry fruit. The tannins and surprisingly high acidity give the wine a toughness and backward feel, but this is one case where there is more than enough fruit to carry it for 10-15 years. Impressive - but, patience is essential! Anticipated maturity: 1998-2010. Robert Parker, Wine Advocate 86 (Apr 1993).
