Lot Essay

Also referred to by Linke as 'Amour guerrier', the mount was used on several important pieces of furniture, including the four-sided vitrine shown at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair (see Christie's East, 31 October 2000, lot 444). For an example mounted on a table stretcher, see C. Payne, François Linke 1855-1946, The Belle Epoque of French Furniture, Woodbridge, 2003, p. 337, pl. 365.
