The drum-form clockcase surmounted by drapery and laurel swags, set with a circular dial with Roman and Arabic chapters and twin-train movement, inscribed CHARPENTIER & CIE/BRONZIERS/A PARIS/RUE CHARLOT 8, flanked by a winged putto, on a shaped plinth with toupie feet, the works stamped CHARPENTIER/FT DE BRONZES/A PARIS/411

Located at 8, Rue Charlot in 1860, the firm became known as Lemerle-Charpentier from 1870-1890. At the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1878, the bronziers Lemerle-Charpentier exhibited garnitures, vases, torchères, and an impressive model of Piat's grande horloge, an example of which was sold Sotheby's New York, November 3, 1999, lot 514.
