Lot Essay

The original model attributed to André-Charles Boulle, now residing in the Wallace Collection, is considered one of three known clocks which may been manufactured under his direction. François Linke also reproduced the model several times in ormolu and patinated bronze, with movements by Maxant and Foucher. Another example of this model clock by Henry Dasson sold Sotheby's New York, 3 November 1999, lot 363 ($23,000).
