Decorated overall in contre partie with scrolling foliage, strapwork, figures and animals, with rectangular top above a frieze drawer and kneehole enclosing a cupboard door, flanked on each side by three short drawers, on eight scrolling legs joined by a pair of 'X'-shaped stretchers, on paw feet, the lock engraved V. Lot Essay

The design for this lot is based on the model by renowned ébéniste, André-Charles Boulle (d. 1732), with inlaid decorations by Jean Bérain (d. 1711). The decorations were originally designed for the Royal Swedish Coach commissioned by Charles XI.

A premier partie companion to this bureau was sold at Sotheby's, London, 3 April 1992, lot 76.
