LATE 19TH/20TH CENTURY, SPURIOUS BLUE INTERLACED L'S MARKS, SCRIPT E AND M MARKS
Each of drum shape with domed cover, flanked by two upright scroll-bracket handles suspending berried swags and with satyr-mask terminals, the neck and body painted with panels of Chinoiserie figures either playing music or fishing, within an elaborate scrollwork surround painted with trellis-work and peonies, the reverse and conforming socle painted with landscape vignettes, above a cast berried garland and canted sqaure base

Lot Essay

The Chinoiserie figures and scenes on these vases are particularly unusual and are a novel interpretation of the eighteenth century decorative tradition of the exotic.
