The circular inset specimen marble top inlaid with radiating segments of marbles around a pictorial roundel of a bird on a branch and two butterflies, with leaf-carved edge on a tripod support with scrolled feet on a concave-sided triangular plinth centred by a leaf-carved finial, on gadrooned feet, the underside with Sydenham depository label inscribed in blue crayon 'Dr. Gooding'

The Italian marble's mosaiced inlay includes in its border the Capitoline's Hadrianic antiquity celebrated as the 'Doves of Pliny'. Its palm-flowered 'altar' tripod table is designed in the Grecian fashion popularised by Thomas King's, Modern Style of Cabinet Work Exemplified, 1829; 2nd ed., 1835).
