Lot Essay

Loie Fuller was an American dancer who moved to Paris in 1892 and captivated Parisian audiences with her innovative use of lighting, silk drapes and dance. The symbolist poet Stephane Mallarme described her dancing as "..the dizziness of the soul made visible by an artifice."
