The letter from George Eastman, the founder of the Eastman Kodak Company, is addressed to Church & Church of Washington DC and states:
Gentlemen:-
In reply to your letter of Nov. 12th, we send you herewith a copy of a History of Photography, which refers to a publication of the Bombay Photographic Society in 1855, describing a measuring device for a roll-holder. If you can use it to any advantage please do so. If you cannot find a copy of notes and queries in the Washington library, we will try and get a copy from Mr. Walker. You had better prepare an application based on the Walker letter, if there is anything shown which is patentable.
Thinking that you may not be able to find the paper referred to in the History of Photography, we have sent to Mr. Walker for copies. In the meantime, perhaps the office will delay action awaiting their arrival.
