ANSEL ADAMS (1902-1984)
PROPERTY FROM THE ESTATE OF BRUCE DOWNES Lots 319-323, all inscribed affectionately to Bruce Downes, were presented to him on the occasion of his retirement as editor of Popular Photography in 1964. Downes, who had held this influential post for a number of years, was widely acknowledged as one of the foremost writers on photography and counted among his friends and associates the leading photographers of the day. On his death in 1966, the collection was inherited by his wife Helen Busch who in turn bequeathed it to her son, Richard Busch, the present owner.
