The bulbous body divided in six arcaded panels painted with two alternating formal garden scenes, one with a gallant couple drinking, the other with a servant holding a tray and a bottle, the shoulder with putti on large acanthus leaves, with intertwined blue snake handles, the cover with six spouts shaped as griffin heads, alternating ruyi motifs and stylised flowers, the border with concave niches to fit with the handles, the top with hexagonal opening (restored)

Lot Essay

Comparable examples show that this vase was originally accompanied by a pedestal stand. The top section from comparable examples listed below contains two segments. The shape of the top section of the vase offered differs from the other examples: its rounded top with hexagonal and finely decorated opening probably did not contain another segment.
