Lot Essay

This hitherto unrecorded composition seems to have the characteristics of a fully autograph mature work by the artist. However, Dr. Birgit Schumacher, to whom we are grateful, has withheld her final judgement subject to studying the picture in the original. While she has admired many aspects of the handling, for instance the fine details in the faces of the figure group and the horses, she also detects certain weaknesses in the face of the baby and the anatomy of the little boy.
