Accompanied by Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with enamel dial, rubies and painted portrait of the King of Saudi Arabia in 1955 and its subsequent sale on 29 June 1956. Furthermore delivered with Patek Philippe original fitted green leather presentation box, original sales tag and spare crystal.
The present watch has never been offered in public before and is one of less than 20 examples of this particular model to appear at auction to date. It was made for King Ibn Saud's household and given as gift to dignitaries or friends of his Majesty. Abd al-Aziz ibn Saud, 1880?-1953, was the founder of Saudi Arabia and the country's first King. The leather of the presentation box is green, the colour of Saudi Arabia's banner.
Reference 600 was launched in 1957 and made in different versions:
- ref. 600 with standard metal dial
- ref. 600/1, the present reference, with enamel dial
It is interesting to note that the cases of these two references have a different thickness, ref. 600 4.8 mm whereas ref. 600/1 shows a thickness of 5.8 mm caused by the applied ruby-set numerals and the enamel dial which is thicker than the standard metal one.
