Cal. 829 copper-finished lever movement, 36 jewels, the engine-turned silvered dial with applied Arabic numerals on blank chapter ring, fan-shaped chronograph working/not working indication, window for date, the glazed reverse with silvered chapter ring indicating the seconds and arch-shaped chapter ring for the retrograde 30 minutes register, the rectangular case with striped ends, two square chronograph buttons in the band, all pivoting within the plain backplate, 18K pink gold Jaeger-LeCoultre deployant clasp, case, dial and movement signed

Lot Essay

The Reverso model, launched in 1931, is the world longest-running watch model. Essentially unchanged for more than 60 years, the Reverso continues to flourish both as a modern timepiece and as one of the few original Art Deco objects still in use.

The Retrograde Chronograph model was launched in 1996 in a limited edition of 500 pink gold examples only. Its realization took nearly two years and its complexity obliged Jaeger-LeCoultre to use a double dial: one side for the usual time, date and power reserve indication, the other for the chronograph and register functions.
