With nickel-finished jewelled lever movement, the silvered matte dial with applied square-shaped and dagger numerals with luminous accents, luminous gold dauphine hands, outer date ring with central date hand, two windows for day and month, subsidiary dial indicating phases of the moon combined with constant seconds, in tonneau-shaped water-resistant-type case with screw back and screw down crown, downturned lugs, together with an 18K gold Rolex Jubilée bracelet, case, dial and movement signed

Lot Essay

Accompanied by Rolex Garantie dated September 1963, stamped Rudolf Hübner, Wien and fitted presentation box.

This model, reference 6062, was the first Rolex wristwatch to integrate day, date, month and phases of the moon. It was produced in a small series in the 1950's.

Rolex has offered only two different models of moonphase wristwatches, references 8171 and 6062. Both models are automatic, however reference 8171 (see lot 291 in this auction) features a snap on back, while reference 6062, the Oyster version, has a water-resistant-type screw back.
