The use, in the present lot, of the church tower, ruins and other buildings in the right hand side of the composition, can be found in several other signed pictures by Jan van Huysum, such as the example in the Mauritshuis, The Hague and with Christie's, London, 18 December 1980, lot 62. It is interesting to note that a large number of comparable paintings in the past have been attributed to both Jan van Huysum and to the Amsterdam artist Nicolaes Pimont (Amsterdam 1644-1709 Vollenhove).
