Fisherfolk on the beach with sailing vessels beyond

Known primarily as a painter of beach scenes comparable to the present picture, Kool was a native of Haarlem whose work was strongly influenced by that of Cornelis Beelt. His beaches are generally populated with numerous figures and frequently depict either, and sometimes both, a fish-seller or a man on horseback.
