This oval mirror-frame relates to a pattern for an oak leaf-wreathed girandole, published by the Golden Square cabinet-makers William Ince and John Mayhew in their Universal System of Household Furniture, 1762, pl. LXXI.

A related although larger oval mirror from the collection of the late Lady de Trafford, was sold at Christie's, London, 3 March 1994, lot 116.
