FOUR REGENCY GILT-BRONZE PLAQUES IN THE FORM OF FIREMAN'S ARM BADGES
EARLY 19TH CENTURY
Comprising: three plaques of oval form; one with an acanthus border framing a figure of the victorious Minerva holding aloft her spear and a branch of laurel, with a ribbon above inscribed "GUARDIAN ASSURANCE COMPANY"; the other with a rope-twist border framing another figure of Minerva resting her hand on a globe and holding aloft a caduceus, also framed by another ribbon inscribed "BRITISH.COMMERCIAL. INSURANCE.COMPANY."; the other with a raised border inscribed "GLOUCESTERSHIRE.ASSURANCE.COMPANY. CHELTENHAM" framing two prancing lions holding the town coat-of-arms, with a further inscription beneath "FIDES INVICTA TRIUMPHANT"; the final plaque of octagonal form with garland and sun-burst border framing the figure of a King holding a staff in his right hand and a shield with a prancing dragon in his left, inscibed above "WEST.OF.ENGLAND" and beneath "EXETER 1807"
