A rare aluminium pocket watch by Vacheron & Constantin
The openface keyless watch with nickel plated jewelled lever movement, the gold alloy balance with ruby endstone and micrometer regulation, adjusted to temperatures, the matt dial signed Vacheron & Constantin Geneve with Arabic numerals and subsidiary seconds and moon hands, in aluminium case, the reverse with inscription - Presented to J. Cooling By Northern Aluminium Company Ltd. In Recognition of Long and Loyal Service, in maker's display type fitted case; a rolled gold openface keyless lever pocket watch, the dial signed Waltham, to a 9ct. gold fetter-link watch chain, suspending a George V half-sovereign fob; and a George V sovereign, 1915

The Northern Aluminium company was founded in 1902 in Canada. In 1925 the company changed it's name to Aluminium of Canada. During the Second World War the demand for aluminium increased dramatically with more fabricating plants being built in Canada and the United Kingdom. In 1966 the company changed it's name to Alcon and is still operating under this name today
