C. Stephen Stean; 6 albums with a total of approx. 235 photographs, majority gelatin silver prints. 1920s-early 30s. Varying sizes from 2 7/8 x 1¾in. (7.2 x 4.3cm.) to 4 x 3¼in. (10 x 8.2cm.) Majority titled and many numbered sequentially in ink on mounts. Majority mounted one-per-page, tissue guards. Each album covered with various textiles in style of the Wiener Werkstätte, 2 titled in ink on spines. Album size: 10 x 9 3/8in. (26.5 x 23.8cm.) (6)

Lot Essay

Stean was a medical doctor who was also an avid amateur photographer. In 1905, he was awarded a bronze plaque from the Photographic Society. The albums show: Tripoli and Tunisia (39) album includes street merchants, market scenes and interesting individual and group portraits. Greece (61) including night views of the Acropolis; Copenhagen, Sweden (14); Kost and Sobotka, Bohemia (18); St. Moritz, Switzerland (48); and Hamburg, Rhein and Frankfurt, Germany (55), among other sites.
